Why Writers Thrive in Community

If you’re starting out as a writer, nothing in this world is scarier than sharing your work. There is something so vulnerable about writing something down, whether it be fiction or your own thoughts. I think the reason for this is there is so much that can go wrong. Writing is such an elaborate and intricate form of art. I don’t think there is a writer in this world that is 100% confident with anything they write. Writers are always their own worst critics, at least the good ones anyway.

Once you have accepted this fact and that you are not alone with your feelings, you open yourself up to the possibility to grow so much more as a writer. Writing alone is for novices. The only way to become a professional writer is to join a community.

You need a place to ask questions, celebrate triumphs, and get critique. The internet is a vast and terrifying place. Unless you hunker down to a smaller, like-minded group, you will never find the answers to your questions.

Now finding your group, that can be the tricky part. There are virtual groups, local groups, free groups, and ones you pay for. What path is the right one to take?

I have always found that you get what you invest. If you are investing in your writing or in a writing group, you are going to have an extra push to accomplish your goals. That investment could be your time or your money. You need to be apart of a group with members who are actively working to accomplish their goals.

I am apart of a few writing communities and because of them, I have been able to write more, grow my business, and ultimately sell more books.

If you are subscribed to my email list, then you have access to a free writing group that is working towards some amazing goals. If you are looking for something different or something a little bit extra, please feel free to reach out and I would love to give you some recommendations.
